Ryan Tobin, a sophomore on New York University's men's cross country team, was the Violets' lone competitor at the NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday, November 19, in Lansing, MI.
Making his second consecutive appearance at the national championship, Tobin improved on his 2021 finish. Competing in a field of 292 runners, Tobin placed 138th in a time of 26:16.1 over the 8k Fred Akers Golf Course.
Last season, Tobin finished 197th at the event in Lexington, KY.
"To qualify for nationals twice in your first two years at the collegiate level is pretty impressive," said NYU Head Coach
Tyler Deck Shipley. "He ran a great race and I'm extremely excited about the progress he's made."
Tobin had qualified as an individual with his third-place performance at last Saturday's NCAA Niagara Regional in Rochester, NY.
"Ryan has displayed consistency and toughness throughout his time here," Deck Shipley added. "I know he will continue to improve and do all he can to get back to this race next year."
Alex Phillips of John Carol University won the individual title, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology taking team honors.
