Joe Leslie (Offense) and
Luca Mancuso (Defense) of New York University's men's soccer team garnered University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week awards, announced by the league office this afternoon.
The pair were crucial in the Violets' successful UAA home weekend, as NYU played
top-ranked nationally University of Chicago to a scoreless draw on Friday before securing a 3-0 victory over Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday.
The draw against Chicago was significant for multiple reasons; the Maroons came in with a 14-0-0 record before NYU handed them their first draw of the season while the Violets'
Kim Wyant and Chicago's Julianne Sitch became the first two female head coaches of NCAA men's soccer teams to face each other.
Mancuso became the first goalkeeper in the country to shut out the Maroons this year, delivering five saves on the night. He then saved the lone shot he saw on goal in the victory over WashU for his fifth clean sheet of the season.
Leslie and NYU's offense came alive against the Bears as the junior scored twice in the 3-0 victory. He is now tied for the team lead and tied for second in the UAA with eight goals scored this year.
The Athlete of the Week honors are the second of the season for both Leslie and Mancuso, who will lead the Violets into their final match of the 2022 regular season on Saturday, November 5, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
