Men's Soccer Victorious

Violets Defeat Carnegie Mellon 1-0

The New York University men's soccer team hosted University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 24, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.

The Violets' Giulio Potenti scored the match's only goal as NYU came away with the 1-0 victory.

After a scoreless first half, NYU finally ended the scoring drought in the 72nd minute.

Keyon Namdar started the action with a corner kick that reached the front of the net. Joe Brancato got a foot on it before it landed to Potenti, who beat Tartan goalkeeper Kai Yamamoto

The NYU defense held Carnegie Mellon at bay the rest of the way to ensure the shutout victory.

"I have to commend the players on their effort today," said Head Coach Kim Wyant. "We followed the game plan beautifully. The blocking was tight. Everyone was committed to defending."

The Tartans took eight shots in the contest, with none reaching NYU keeper Jackson McCloskey.

The Violets attempted 14 shots, with six landing on goal.

NYU returns to the pitch for another UAA contest on Sunday, October 26. The Violets host Case Western Reserve University back at Lubetkin Field at 11:00am.
