The New York University Men's Soccer team hosted a University Athletic Association (UAA) match against Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, October 26, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
The Violets dropped the morning match against the Spartans, 1-0.
Demir Calkap and
Terra Nagai both almost put the Violets on top in the 19th and 21st minutes, respectively. Calkap shot a ball that missed to the left of the goal, while Nagai narrowly missed to the right.
Neither team broke through in the first half, but Case Western scored the match's only goal in the 59th minute after a shot from the middle of the box found its way into the net.
A pair of fouls late in the game gave NYU two chances to score, but the Violets were unable to capitalize and net the equalizer.
An 87th minute foul just outside of the box gave NYU their best chance to score in the second half, but Case Western was able to clear the ball from the box.
Another Spartan foul gave the Violets a free kick with six seconds left on the clock. A great ball from Kenyon Namdar went straight towards the goal, but the Spartan goalkeeper caught the ball, ending the match.
"We didn't come out with the standard we expect, but it's the next game up," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "We always come back to practice with a good attitude and give a lot of effort."
The Violets will next travel to St. Louis, MO,, taking on Washington University in St.Louis for a UAA matchup on Saturday, November 1 at 12pm.
