Ida Krause and
Dakota Fordham of New York Unviersity's women's tennis team began play at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA, on Thursday.
Krause defeated Fordham in the ITA Northeast Regional singles title match, as both the champion and runner-up in each region qualifies for the Cup.
The pair won the Northeast Regional doubles championship, also qualifying for the ITA Cup doubles draw.
Krause defeated Katherine Wurster of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-2, 6-3, in her first-round singles match before falling to MIT's Sarah Pertsemlidis (6-2, 6-2) in the next round.
Fordham won a very claose match over Cassidy Binder from Pacific University to open her singles play, winning the first set 6-3 before dropping the second 7-5. Fordham didn't waver, winning the deciding set 7-5 to advance.
But, Pomona-Pitzer's Angie Zhou bested Fordham, 6-2, 6-2, in her next match.
In doubles, the duo lost to Alice Hall and Ansley Carpenter of Sewanee: University of the South (6-2, 6-1) in the opening round.
While the pair dropped out of the main singles and doubles draws, they'll continue competing tomorrow, October 14, in a separate bracket.
