Hirano Recognized as ECAC Player of the Month

Libero recorded 278 digs across 13 matches in September

Lindsey Hirano of New York University's eighth-ranked women's volleyball team was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Defensive Player of the Month for September, recently announced by the organization.

Hirano, who has never had less than 10 digs in a match in her career, posted 278 digs and 5.79 digs per set across 13 matches in September, helping lead the Violets to a 10-3 record during the month.

"Lindsey has continued to establish herself as one of the top liberos in the UAA, region and country," said head coach Andrew Brown. "Her work ethic both in practice and games is something that makes everyone around her better."

She had at least 12 digs in each match during the month, recording 21-or-more digs in eight of the team's 13 matches. The sophomore had a streak of four consecutive outings with 20-plus digs from September 17-23, delivering 29 digs in a four-set victory over University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Carnegie Mellon University on September 18.

Hirano has continued her strong play in October, currently leading the UAA and ranking ninth in the nation with 6.01 digs per set for the season. Her 433 total digs thus far in 2022 rank seventh in the country and top the Association.

"Lindsey continues to showcase her ability to perform at this elite level both on the court and in the classroom," Brown added. "This makes her experience thus far at NYU one we can all be proud of."

The Violets currently hold a 15-4 overall record and 4-1 mark in UAA play, continuing the campaign this evening with a road match at Hunter College in Manhattan at 6 p.m.
