Holz and Hirano Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Duo led NYU to a 3-1 record at the NYU Showdown

Haley Holz and Lindsey Hirano of New York University's 10th-ranked women's volleyball team received Athlete of the Week honors from the University Athletic Association (UAA), announced today by the league office.

Holz was named Athlete of the Week - Offense while Hirano nabbed Athlete of the Week - Defense/Setting recognition.

The pair led NYU to a 3-1 record at the NYU Showdown in Brooklyn on Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8, as the Violets defeated Swarthmore College, #9 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and #19 MIT.

Holz averaged 3.47 kills per set on a .260 hitting percentage across the four matches. She shined in the three wins, posting 17 kills against Swarthmore (.255), 20 kills against UWW (.360) and 16 kills (.304) in the five-set victory over MIT.

Hirano, as she's done all season, anchored NYU's defense with 6.00 digs per set. She contributed to the team's setting as well, averaging 1.53 assists per set. The sophomore had at least 20 digs in all four matches, notching a 25-dig, 10-assist double-double against Swarthmore before recording a season-high 32 digs against UWW.

The accolade is Holz's third of the season and Hirano's second.

NYU currently holds a 15-4 record this season and 4-1 mark in UAA play. The Violets next take the court on Tuesday, October 11, with a road match at Hunter College in Manhattan.
