The New York University women's tennis team, ranked #19 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) opened its 2020 spring campaign with a 7-2 victory over host #25 Swarthmore College on Friday, February 21, in Swarthmore, PA.
The Violets won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles.
"It was a good early test for us. Swarthmore has a good team, but we were a little stronger throughout the lineup," said Head Coach
Horace Choy.
Coco Kulle (Vienna, Austria/Choate Rosemary Hall (CT)) and
Anastasiia Balyk combined for a win at #2 doubles and also posted straight-set victories at #3 and #4, respectively.
Judy Kam (Beijing, China/University) was also a double-winner for NYU, successfully posting a #3 doubles match victory with
Rupa Ganesh (San Jose, CA/Lynbrook) and then claiming a straight-set win at #6 singles.
"The women competed very well, and although the tennis was a little uneven, they found a way to win," Choy added. "I'm proud of how hard they played. We have another test tomorrow and the women will be ready."
The Violets return to the court tomorrow for a match against #24 Christopher Newport University, also at Swarthmore. First serves are set for 2:00pm.
