For the fifth consecutive year, the New York University women's golf team has won the Liberty League Championship. And, for the fifth straight season, the Violets will be heading to the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Playing at the Mohawk Golf Club in Schenectedy, NY, on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, the Violets entered Saturday's second round in first place by 16 strokes after shooting 317 on Friday. The squad did even better on Saturday, shaving off 10 strokes by carding a total of 307 and easily defending the title while taking the top three spots individually.

Wellesley College placed second, 25 strokes behind NYU.

"Another super performance by our players. They never stopped focusing on the prize, and that was to win the championship and get back to the NCAA's," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "They never left any doubt that they would accomplishment their goals."

Navika Kuchakulla shot a one-over par 74 (the lowest round of the tournament) over the 5,804-yard course. Her two-day total of 152 provided a one-stroke victory over teammate Arshia Mahant (153, 77-76).

Patty Treevichaphan, who led the pack heading into Saturday's round, finished in third place (160, 76-84).

Also scoring for NYU was Jessica Wu, who tied for ninth place (164, 86-78)

Arisa Kimura also competed for NYU and took 11th place (166, 87-79).

Overall, seven teams and 36 golfers competed.

"It's been a great season. All of our golfers have contributed to the success we've had," Johnson added. "Now, we have one more task ahead of us."

The Violets will now compete for the National Championship on Tuesday-Friday, May 14-17, at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX. The squad finished a best-ever fourth in 2018.
