Jekyll Island Invitational Final Results
After three days of competition against some of the best golfers in the nation, only one individual could finish on top. That golfer was New York University sophomore
Navika Kuchakulla, who bested a field of 119 players in winning the individual title at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational, which was held Friday-Sunday, March 15-17, on Jekyll Island, GA.
"Amazing," said NYU Head Coach
Brad Johnson. "I am super excited for Navika. This is an historic day for NYU Golf."
Kuchakulla followed up her one-under-par 71 on Saturday with a closing-round 75 on Sunday. Her three-day total of four-over-par 220 (74-71-75) gave her a two-stroke victory over Methodist University's Morgan Bowen.
"This was a tougher field than the NCAA Championship and we have an individual champion," Johnson explained. "That's incredible."
Playing on the Jekyll Island Golf Club/Indian Mound's par-72, 5,801-yard course, the Violets, currently ranked #8 in the nation by
Golfstat, finished third overall with a three-day total of 925. Carnegie Mellon University, ranked #15, won the 21-team competition (912), while #13 Methodist (918) placed second.
NYU finished just ahead of fourth-place Rhodes College (934), currently ranked #5.
Arshia Mahant was the Violets' second-low scorer. She tied for 11th place overall with a three-day total of 231 (76-77-78).
Patty Treevichaphan, who shot 77 on Friday, 79 on Saturday and 82 on Sunday (238 overall), tied for 22nd place.
Jessica Wu (239, tied 26th) and
Arisa Kimura (242, tied 34th) also competed for NYU.
"This was a great tournament for our players and for our team," Johnson concluded. "I'm excited to see how we continue to compete throughout the rest of the season."
The Violets go on a four-week hiatus before returning to action at the Vassar College Invitational in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21.
