The New York University men's swimming & diving team, ranked #7 in the nation by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), has closed out competition in the Bomber Invitational, which was hosted by Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, from Friday-Sunday, December 6-8.

The Violets earned a combined 1,802 points over three days of competition, putting them in first place out of 10 schools. SUNY Geneseo held on to second with 1,148 points, while host Ithaca finished in third with 1,080 points.

Day three of the invitational consisted only of swimming events. Thomas Pritchard (Durham, NC /Northern Durham ) and Graham Chatoor (Glencoe, Trinidad/International School of Port Spain) started things off with an incredibly close race in the 1,650-yard freestyle. While both men finished over a minute ahead of the next swimmer, in the end it was Pritchard who emerged victorious (15:24.36) with Chatoor taking second (15.24.43). Both earned NCAA cuts for their efforts.

Josh Rine (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) then posted his first win of the invitational, recording a time of 1:49.32 in the 200-yard backstroke and earning him his first cut.

"I am really happy with our performance this weekend," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "The team has worked extremely hard this semester and it's awesome to see them swim so fast at mid-season."

Ultimately, over the course of three days, 13 different Violets racked up a total of 21 NCAA cuts (with relays counting as one).

"We have a lot more hard work ahead of us," added Miele. "But, we have set ourselves up well for the NCAAs."

With today's victory, the Violets have won their third meet of the season, thus closing out 2019 on a high note. The swimmers and divers will return to action on Saturday, January 11, when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Family/Senior Day at NYU's Palladium Athletic Facility.
