The New York University men's swimming & diving team opened its 2019-20 season on Saturday, October 26, by defeating Rowan University 180-120 in Glassboro, NJ.

In the swimming events, the Violets dominated the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyles. In both races, Graham Chatoor (Glencoe, Trinidad/International School of Port Spain) took first place with times of 9:32.82 and 4:38.60, respectively, while Thomas Pritchard (Durham, NC /Northern Durham ) and Peyton Lucas (Keller, TX/Keller) finished right behind him in second and third.

Justin Lum (Ventura, CA/Ventura) and Elan Oumarov (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Technical) also claimed two victories each. Lum took first place in the 100-yard (58.15) and 200-yard (2:05.83) breaststrokes, while Oumarov was tops in the 100-yard (51.56) and 200-yard (1:54.60) butterfly events.

"The guys got off to a great start today," noted Head Coach Trevor Miele. "Rowan is one of the top teams in the country and to come and beat them in their own pool is a great accomplishment."

In diving, Nick Lemieux (Eagan, MN/Eagan) finished second in the one-meter dive with 310.95 points, while Cole Vertin (San Jose, CA/St. Francis) claimed second in the three-meter dive with 329.85 points.

"Nick had an outstanding meet overall and our freshman exceeded expectations." mentioned Diving Coach Todd Kolean.

"We still have a lot of hard work ahead of us," added Miele, "but this is a great way to start the season off."

The Violets will be back in action on Friday, November 8, when they host Princeton University, Stevens Institute of Technology and Drew University for day one of the NYU Fall Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium in Manhattan.
