Violets Will Face Rochester in Seventh-Place Match on Saturday

Complete Results

The New York University women's tennis team completed its second day of play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday, April 21, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The #7 Violets (7-5) were defeated by #6 Brandeis University 8-1 in the consolation semifinals.

Freshmen Judy Kam and Rupa Ganesh picked up NYU's only victory of the afternoon, defeating Keren Khromchenko and Michele Lehat 8-6 in #3 doubles.

"We won the last doubles match to make it 2-1, but we could not sustain the momentum," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "Brandeis got off to good starts in singles play and stayed on top of us."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomores Alice McGinty and Vanessa Scott dropped a close 8-6 match to Sophia He and Haley Cohen in #2 doubles.

- Laila El Desouki played a competitive match in #5 singles. The senior was defeated by He 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 10-6.

"It was a disappointing result and we need to do better tomorrow," added Choy.

The Violets conclude tournament play tomorrow with the seventh-place match against #8 University of Rochester. The match is set to begin at 9:00 am.
