The New York University men's and women's tennis teams are set to begin their seasons at The College of New Jersey Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 11-12, in Ewing, NJ.

Both teams will look to improve upon their performances from last season. The men finished 2014-15 with a 4-9 dual record, while the women went 5-6. Each squad also took seventh place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

At last season's TCNJ Invitational, the men's team went a combined 11-10 (singles and doubles), while the women finished at 9-9.

The men's roster for the fall will feature four newcomers -- three freshmen and one transfer -- and four returning upperclassmen, including senior captain Sidd Thangirala and junior Matt DeMichiel. Thangirala spent last season at the #1 spot for both singles and doubles and finished third on the team with 13 wins. DeMichiel finished last season with a 14-9 overall record and a 3-2 record in UAA play.

The women's roster will feature three freshmen and eight returning upperclassmen. Leading the way for the Violets will be senior Carmen Lai and junior Laila El Dessouki. As a doubles team last season, Lai and El Dessouki finished with a 17-6 record and were the first NYU women's tennis players in program history to earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America honors after winning the ITA Northeast Regional Championship and placing seventh at the ITA National Championships. El Dessouki went 14-3 in singles play, while Lai finished 12-5.

Competition on Friday is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm with singles play only. Doubles will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday.
