Wrestlers Set to Face Centennial Foes

#24 NYU Grapplers Head to Virginia to Wrestle McDaniel and Washington & Lee



The #24 New York University wrestling team is set to conclude regular-season Centennial Conference competition against host Washington & Lee University and McDaniel College on Saturday, February 7, in Lexington, VA.

NYU (16-3, 6-0 Centennial) is riding a nine-match winning streak and is attempting to finish its Centennial schedule unbeaten. The squad is coming off a pair of victories against the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 4, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. 

Two of NYU's senior captains, Brandon Jones (141 pounds) and Patrick Sheehan (184 pounds), enter the matches ranked #3 and #10, in their respective weight classes by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

Raymond Jazikoff leads NYU with a team-best 28 wins this season. The freshman has been impressive recently, winning four of five bouts since bumping up two weight classes to 174 pounts. 

John Messinger (165 pounds) is second on the team with 22 victories, while reigning University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the week Brian Anderson (197 pounds/Heavyweight) is third with 21. 

NYU's match against the host Generals is set to begin at 11:00 am. The squad is then scheduled to wrestle McDaniel at 12:15 pm in its final Centennial match of the season. Live video will be available for NYU's first match of the day against Washington & Lee.
