The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced that 11 members of New York University's wrestling team have been selected for Scholar All-America honors. NYU also received Scholar All-America Team honors with the eighth-highest cumulative GPA (3.706) of all teams across NCAA Division III.
To be eligible to earn Scholar All-America honors, student-athletes must have placed either in the top eight at their regional tournaments, or have wrestled in at least 15 matches with a win percentage greater than 66 percent. Academically, they must have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA over the last two semesters or have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
The following Violets have been named Scholar All-Americans:
NYU has performed well on the mat this season, winning the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship and placing 2nd of 21 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regionals where NYU qualified six wrestlers to compete at Nationals.
Alexander Diaz, Venezia, Finn, Mayes, and Bell, as well as
Mo Talebi will represent the Violets at the NCAA Division III Championships beginning Friday, March 13, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
