Violets Finish with 2-4 Record

The New York University men's fencing team competed in the Tradition Tournament on Sunday, December 6, at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

The Violets started off with three losses, falling to Penn State University (19-8), Princeton University (19-8) and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (17-10), before defeating Vassar College 16-11.

Against the Brewers, NYU dropped epee 5-4, but won 6-3 in both sabre and foil. Following a 20-7 loss to Harvard University, the Violets ended their afternoon with a 17-10 win over host Sacred Heart. NYU lost 6-3 in epee, but picked up convincing 7-2 victories over the Pioneers in sabre and foil.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Daniel Sconzo led NYU with a 12-5 record in foil. The Merrick, NY, native went 3-0 against the Nittany Lions and 2-0 versus Vassar.

"Daniel worked really hard and was definitely the anchor of the foil team," said NYU Assistant Coach Lauren Willock.

- Junior John Cramerus finished 11-7 in epee and was a perfect 3-0 in the team's two victories.

"John did a great job leading today, both on and off the strip," added Willock.

The Violets will be back in action for the North American Cup, which will take place from Friday-Monday, January 8-11, in St. Louis, MO.
