New York University's men's and women's swimming & diving teams will begin their 2015-16 seasons on Saturday, October 10, when they host dual meets against SUNY Cortland at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan.
Last season, Head Coach
Trevor Miele led the women's program to an undefeated 8-0 record in dual meets, a first-place finish of 13 teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, a fourth-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, and a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Isabelle Kitze looks to return to the NCAA's with another strong season. The former All-American set NYU team records in the 50-yeard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle. She also helped attain new NYU records in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays along with the 200-yard, 400-yard and 800-yard freetsyle relays.
The men's team also went unbeaten (9-0), also posted a
first-place finish of 13 teams at the ECAC Championships, took third at the UAA Championships, and also produced a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. "All-American
Daniel Tay will return for his junior campaign. The Violets' co-captain set three new NYU team records in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay.
The diving teams will also be competing this Saturday, beginning at 11:30am. Sophomore
Austin Campitelli led the team last season, qualifying for NCAA Championships and placing 20th in the preliminary rounds of both the one-meter (348.10) and three-meter (373.60) 11-dive competitions.
"Our women's team is one of the strongest teams that we've ever had here at NYU, led by Austin. She was UAA and ECAC Diver of the Year last season, as well as a national qualifier," said Diving Coach
Scott Donie. "We also have a new freshman named
Kelly Ryser, who should make an immediate impact."
This year's opening-day opponent, SUNY Cortland, was also last year's opening-day opponent. The Violets were victorious in last season's opener, as the men topped Cortland 193-87 and the women won 198-94.
This year's season-opening meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday with diving beginning at 11:30 am.
