Trevor Miele, who took over as head coach of the New York University men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs in 2012-13, has led the men to a 74-24 overall dual-meet record and the women to a 65-28 mark during that span.

In an historic 2025-26 campaign, Miele led the women’s team to the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III National Championship and University Athletic Association (UAA) title, while the men claimed a best-ever second-place National finish.

A total of 94 All-America honors were notched at the 2026 NCAA Championships, with the teams winning national titles in 10 events. Leading the way was Honda Division III Women’s Athlete of the Year and College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III Women’s Swimmer of the Year Kaley McIntyre, who secured three individual national titles and was a member of two national champion relay squads. Nicole Ranile, Maeve O’Donnell and Teddy Cross also won individual national titles for the Violets, while the Violets’ National Champion women’s 200-yard freestyle relay set a new NCAA record (1:29.38).

Miele’s squads were near-perfect during the ’25-26 season, with the men going undefeated (7-0) in dual meets, the women posting a 6-1 record, and the teams combining to set eight NYU program records (5 men, 3 women). Miele was named CSCAA Division III Women’s Coach of the Year for the second time, while he and his assistants received UAA Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the fourth time.

Flynn led the team with four All-America honors, while Graham Chatoor, Nika Kouznetsova and Isabel Oldham each earned three.

The Violets’ success was not confined to the pool in ’21-22, as a total of 44 team members earned UAA All-Academic honors and 38 were selected as CSCAA Scholar All-Americans. In addition, five were named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award recipients.

In addition to all the accolades achieved in the pool, both squads also earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Awards in both the fall and spring. Collins was named CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American At-Large and NYU Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year, while 19 team members earned UAA All-Academic honors.

In 2017-18, the men posted a near-perfect 7-1 record, while the women ended the season at 4-4. The men produced a sixth-place national finish and the women took 10th place. Rainey finished with a total of six honors and Chad Moody had five while DelGrosso, Tim Kou and Nianzhong Liu each had four.

The women’s team captured seven All-America awards and 11 Honorable Mentions that season. Both the men and women were recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams. In addition, 34 team members (20 women, 14 men) earned UAA All-Academic honors.

The 2015-16 season was also outstanding for both the men’s and women’s programs. The women went a perfect 8-0 in dual meets and established a then-best-ever eighth-place finish at the NCAA’s, while the men went 8-1 and earned a ninth-place finish. The women earned a collective 25 All-America accolades, while the men took 22. Gibbs and Isabelle Kitze led the way for the women, as each swimmer captured five All-America honors. During the 2014-15 season, both teams recorded perfect 9-0 records and ninth-place finishes at the NCAA Championships. The campaign also featured both teams winning Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. For his efforts, Miele was named both the men’s and women’s Coach of the Meet at the ECAC Championships, while he and his assistants were also named UAA Men’s Coaching Staff of the Meet.

At the NCAA Championships that season, the men earned a collective 24 All-America honors while the women produced 20. Jerry Crowley led the way for the men with five while Emily Doerner had six for the women. Doerner was also selected as NYU’s Senior Athlete of the Year.

In 2013-14, both programs posted identical 6-2 records. The women captured first place at the ECAC Championships, while the men recorded a second-place finish as Miele was named both the men’s and women’s Coach of the Meet.

That season, Miele also coached two All-Americans. On the men’s side, diver Austen Blease placed sixth in the one-meter dive and on the women’s side Doerner finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships. Team members also produced 12 Honorable Mention All-America performances as the women finished 28th and the men 31st at the NCAA Championships. Both squads also earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors.

In his first season with the Violets in 2012-13, Miele led the men’s team to a second-place finish at the ECAC Championships while the women took fourth.

Prior to his return to NYU, Miele lifted both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs at the Stevens Institute of Technology to national prominence. Before his arrival in Hoboken, NJ, neither the men’s nor women’s program had produced an NCAA qualifier. In his six years with the Ducks, Miele coached 31 NCAA All-Americans, 32 NCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans and the first two NCAA National Champions in school history. The first of those National Champions, Laura Barito, went on to be named the NCAA Woman of the Year – just the third Division III athlete ever to receive the honor.

Before being appointed to the helm of the Stevens programs, Miele spent four seasons as an assistant to Head Coach Bob Sorensen with the NYU men’s swimming & diving team. During that time, he helped coach nine NCAA qualifiers who went on to earn seven All-America honors and 10 Honorable Mention All-America accolades.

Miele also helped the Violets capture back-to-back ECAC Division III Championships in 2004-05 and 2005-06, as well as record a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in ’05-06, their best-ever finish at the national meet to that point. Sorensen, Miele and the rest of the Violet coaches earned UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honors that season after leading the team to a best-ever second-place finish at the UAA Championships.

Miele, who graduated from NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Marketing, was a four-year member and three-year captain of the Violets’ men’s swimming & diving team. A two-time All-American in the 100-yard butterfly, he qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of his four seasons and was named team MVP all four years.

Miele, who was inducted into the NYU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016, earned his Master of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Sports Management from Brooklyn College in 2006.

A native of Dix Hills, NY, Miele resides in Manhattan with his wife Mary and their children Bryce, Trent and Alexis.
