New York University's men's swimming & diving team defeated Division I Iona College 219-71 on Saturday, January 24, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan during NYU's Senior and Family Day.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Betts also won the 100-yard backstroke (52.25) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.85).

- Austin Palmer took first in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:26.93).

- Max Phillips was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.02) and in the 500-yard freestyle (4:46.99).

- Sean Haechler took first place in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.77).

"I am very happy with our performance today," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We have been working really hard over the past month, and it was nice to see the efforts pay off today with a big win over Iona."

Austen Blease, recently honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the University Athletic Association (UAA), won the one-meter (337.20) and three-meter (338.56) diving competitions, breaking the previous NYU program three-meter six-dive record of 334.50, which was set by the senior back in the 2011-12 season.

"Another great day for the divers," said NYU Diving Coach Scott Donie. "We swept every event, and everybody's looking really strong heading into the end of the season."

Kendall, Crowley, Blease, and Brian Blum were the seniors honored prior to the competition.

The Violets will host their next competition, the NYU Invitational, at the PAF on Friday and Saturday, February 6-7.
