NYU 4 CCNY 0The New York University men's soccer team defeated the City College of New York 4-0 on Wednesday night, September 10, at Randall's Island in Manhattan.
Five different Violets (4-0) registered points versus the Beavers (1-3) on the night, but NYU was led by freshman forward
Nicolas Notaro. The rookie scored two goals early in the game and added an assist,
and the Violets never looked back.Notaro's first goal was a header in the box that came in the third minute off a cross from sophomore midfielder
Hector Rojas. His second was another header, this time at the penalty spot off a cross from another freshman, defender
Liam Stimpson.
"Nicolas had two really good goals and his pass to Liam was very impressive, as well," NYU Head Coach
Joe Behan said.
HIGHLIGHTS:- Junior goalkeeper
Nico Cantor started the contest, playing 65 minutes and making two saves, to earn his second victory of the season. Just before he was taken out, Cantor also made a shutout-preserving stop on a Beaver penalty. After sophomore keeper
Lucas Doucette saw five minutes of action, junior
Aaron Hoffman made his debut in net for the Violets, making two saves and finishing off the contest.
"Nico did well, especially on the penalty to preserve the shutout," Behan said. "All of our keepers did well and played their parts. One of our goals for the game was to get the shutout. But, we always have room to improve."
- Stimpson also factored into the win over CCNY. The Newport Beach, CA, native notched three points on the night, assisting on Notaro's second goal and notching a score of his own in the 47th minute (from Notaro) from 25 yards out into the upper 90 to put NYU up by three.
- Freshman forward
Malcolm Montilus scored the final Violet goal on the night in the 65th minute, putting a header past the Beaver keeper off a long cross from freshman midfielder
Ryan Cerqueria.
The Violets return to action when they host St. John Fisher College on Saturday night, September 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
