NYU Men's Swimming & Diving Conquers Springfield

Violets Defeat Pride 187.5-76.5 in Dual Meet

Blum finished third in both diving events.

New York University's men's swimming & diving team beat Springfield College (187.5-76.5) in a dual meet on Saturday, January 18, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan.
 
Violet freshman Jason Bo won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.00 and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.16). Bo also participated on the second-place 200-yard medley relay (1:40.51) along with senior Phil Wiesel, freshman Harrison Clewell and sophomore Alexander Maquet.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
 
- Junior diver Brian Blum placed third in both the one-meter (252.91) and the three-meter (272.13) competitions.
 
"Today was really important for all of the divers," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "This was our first look at top-flight national level competition. Everybody really rose to the occasion."
 
- Senior Charlie Wu, freshman Daniel Tay, junior Jerry Crowley, and junior Matt Kendall participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:37.05).
 
- Violet freshmen swept the 1,000-yard freestyle with Ryan Yue winning (9:53.53), Ethan Louie coming in second (10:01.35), Ben Ching placing third (10:02.00), and Peter Schott finishing fourth (10:45.61).
 
- Freshman Max Phillips won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.52.
 
"I was really impressed with our swimming today," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We did really well after such a long break. I am very proud of our team."

The Violets' next competition will be held at the PAF against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Friday, January 24. Competition will begin at 6:00pm.
