After returning to New York City after a week of training in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, the New York University men's swimming & diving team jumped back into pool against Springfield College in Springfield, MA, on Saturday, January 12. While the Violets performed admirably, they were outdone by their hosts 164-123.
Jerry Crowley was a triple-winner for the VIolets, posting victories in the 100-yard butterfly (52.65), the 100-yard freestyle (48.14) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.81).
Highlights:
- Some of the most notable NYU performances of the day came during the relay races. The 200-yard medley relay team of
Charlie Wu, Crowley, Ray Oo, and
Aleksandr Koukharevitch emerged victorious after posting a time of 1:40.31.
- In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Oo, Koukharevitch,
Noah Cheng, and Danny Isaacson notched a victory with a time of 3:24.91, while the foursome of
Phil Wiesel, Alexander Maquet,
Frank Bozzi, and
Matt Kendall placed second with a time of 3:37.12.
- Diver
Brian Blum achieved victory in the one-meter dive after posting a score of 222.45.
Austen Blease placed second with a score of 219.82.
- Wu notched a win in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:05.47.
- "I saw progress in what we've been working on, as well as a lot of good racing," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele.
The Violets will return to the pool on Friday, January 25, against the Unite States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. The meet will begin at 6pm.
