The New York University women's golf team tied for sixth out of 11 teams at the Vassar College Invitational, which was held at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Saturday-Sunday, April 14-15.
After shooting an uncharacteristically high 360 in the first round, the Violets did not fare much better in the final, carding a 358 on the par-72, 5,805-yard course. The squad's two-day total of 718 was good enough to tie for sixth place with St. Lawrence University (358-360).
Amherst College captured the team championship with a two-round score of 663 (337-326). The Lord Jeffs edged out #15 Middlebury College by four strokes, as the Panthers posted a 667 (341-326).
Eighth-ranked Williams College (682, 351-331), host Vassar (691, 362-329) and Ithaca College (691, 342-349) rounded out the top five.
Kristina Shalhoup once again had the best finish for NYU, putting together a 170 after shooting 86 in the first round and 84 in the final round. She ultimately finished in a tie for 13th in a field of 62 competitors.
Jiye Kim was next for the Violets, recording a two-day total of 182 (89-93) to land in a tie for 29th.
Meaghan Kenny (183, 92-91) and
Deanna Lee Jia Yi (183, 93-90) were NYU's other two scorers.
Middlebury's Flora Weeks defeated Amherst's Elizabeth Monty in a two-hole playoff to claim medalist honors, as each player carded a 159.
The Violets play their final tournament of the season next weekend, April 21-22, at the Jack Leaman Championship, which will be hosted by Amherst.
