Box Score

In its final United Volleyball Conference (UVC) regular season match, the New York University men's volleyball team (19-6, 11-0) defeated SUNY New Paltz (12-9, 6-5) in a five-set battle (25-21, 25-27, 22-25, 25-12, 15-13).

NYU did not have its normal lineup on the court as two starters (Taylor Fauntleroy and Matthew MacDonald) and a bunch of reserve players were not able to travel with the team due to class obligations.

“I am so proud of the way our team has faced adversity all year and tonight was no different,” said head coach Jose Pina

Captain Pat Dodd had a career-high 22 kills on 48 attacks and added one crucial service ace. Up 8-7 in the fifth set, Dodd delivered a service ace to give NYU a two-point lead. The teams served out from there, giving NYU a 15-13 victory.

“We played good enough to win, but not to finish,” said Pina. “We seemed a bit off throughout the night. but managed to persevere.”

One Violet who seemed to be on the whole night was Nick Capriccio. He had 18 kills with just two errors on 27 attempts, giving him a hitting percentage of .593. Capriccio also added four digs, two aces and six total blocks.

Jay Hayes played some incredible defense, recording 12 digs. Connor Mortland doled out 55 assists.

For the Hawks, Mike Van Tyne recorded 18 kills.

The Violets are set to host NYU-Poly on Sunday, March 31, at the Coles Sports Center at 2:00pm.
