New York University's Philip Jamesson finished 13th in foil at the 2012 NCAA Fencing Championship, which was hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. The NCAA's opened with the women's draw on Thursday-Friday, March 22-23, and concluded with the men's draw on Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25.
NYU's lone competitor at the NCAA's, Jamesson took 13th out of 24 in foil, missing All-America honors by just one place.
"Phil battled very hard all weekend," said Violet head coach
Steve Mormando. "He lost some close ones, but I think he did great and should be very proud."
After Saturday's action, Jamesson had grabbed possession of 14th place with a record of 7-7. He continued to battle on Sunday, winning four of his nine bouts. He ended the NCAA Championship with a record of 11-12, jumping up one spot on the leaderboard on the final day of competition.
"Phil had a great season," Mormando added. "He should take nothing but positives from this year."
The 13th-place finish matched Jamesson's previous best at the NCAA Championship. As a freshman, he placed 13th in foil, while last season he took 16th.
In the team standings, NYU placed 22nd out of 25. Of the four Division III teams competing, the Violets had the second-highest finish, one spot behind Vassar College and ahead of Brandeis University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Host Ohio State captured the team title, finishing 21 points ahead of Princeton University.
