Violets Won National Title 15 Years Ago This Week

The National Championship banner that hangs from the rafters of the Coles Sports Center.
On March 22, 1997, the New York University women's basketball team captured the first National Championship in school history, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in dramatic fashion.

Marsha Harris, the program's all-time leading scorer, hit the game-winning layup with less than two seconds on the clock to lift the Violets to the title.

Nearly 15 years to the day, John Otis of The New York Times caught up with Harris and several other of NYU's stars from the National Championship squad. Click here to read the story.
