Philip Jamesson of the New York University men's fencing team earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Championship with his performance at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday, March 11, at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA.

Jamesson advanced from his pool to the 12-person foil final, where he placed seventh with four bout victories.

Overall, 34 fencers competed in foil.

Selections for the NCAA Fencing Championships are "officially" announced on Tuesday and are determined by a combination of a fencer's performance at regionals and his record during the season.

"Phil fenced great all the way through on Sunday. He has had an outstanding season and will be our lone representative at nationals," said head coach Steve Mormando

Four other Violets placed in the among the top-20 in their weapons at the event. In addition to Jamesson landing in seventh in foil, Andrew Ark placed 16th in the weapon, followed by Christian Vastola in 19th and Ken Sin in 20th.

"Unfortunately, our guys were all put into the same pool and it cut down on their chances of making finals," Mormando explained.

Ben Radding recorded a 17th-place finish in men's sabre. Spencer Reckford was five places behind in the weapon, placing 22nd.

There was no team scoring at the Northeast Regional Championships.

The NCAA Championship takes place from Thursday-Sunday, March 22-25, in Columbus, OH.
