The New York University women's track & field team stood toe-to-toe against some of the best teams and athletes from across the country at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 10.

The competition was among the toughest the Violets have faced to date this year, and they put up a valiant effort.

Team captain and two-time All-American Maeve Evans finished in the top half of the field in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:06.31. Her mark was a season-best for the senior, who is still working her way back into shape coming off of an injury.

Returning to the same place where she set a personal-best time of 58.63 in the 400 meters last season, Marion Burns posted a solid time of 26.08 in the 200 meters.

Georgina Norton had some personal accolades of her own, as she ran a career-best time of 3:01.10 in the 1,000 meters.

Paige Zelinsky (17:41.12) and Laura Santoski (18:11.12) each ran the 5,000 meters for the first time this season, while a pair of runners, Lorraine Brancale and Francesca Macaluso, posted season bests in the 800 meters, recording times of 2:20.13 and 2:26.32, respectively.

Emily Cousens ran her first 3,000-meter race of the season. Returning following  an injury during the cross country campaign, she posted a time of 10:37.93.

One women's event, the distance medley relay, was run on Saturday. And, the Violets saved their best for last by setting a team record in that race.

The foursome of Norton, Burns, Alyssa Binczyk, and Evans broke the old record by more than 14 second with their 12:10.72 performance. The old record of 12:24.83 was set in 2010.

The Violets return to action at the NYU Division III Challenge at the New Balance Track and Field Center in Manhattan on Saturday, February 18.
