Men's Fencing Competes in Vassar Invitational

Violets Defeat Sacred Heart During 1-5 Finish

Phil Jamesson led the Violets, going 9-8 on the day.
The New York University men's fencing team competed in the Vassar Invitational, hosted by Vassar College on Saturday, December 1, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Violets defeated Sacred Heart University 14-13 in the event's final match to salvage a 1-5 overall record on the day.

NYU was defeated by their other five opponents. The Violets fell to the University of Pennsylvania 23-4, Penn State University 22-5, University of North Carolina 14-13, Harvard University 23-4, and Princeton University 22-5.

Highlights:

-Captain Phil Jamesson recorded the most victories on the day for the Violets. He went  9-8 for the day in foil.

-Against Sacred Heart, the Violets lost in epee and foil by identical scores of 5-4. However, in sabre, the Violets won 6-3, including victories in the last three bouts.  Andrew Kelly and Jerry Xu earned the final victories for the Violets. 

-The Violets almost pulled off a second win, but were narrowly defeated by North Carolina.

The Violets return to team competition when they host the NYU Invitational at the Coles Sports Center on Sunday, January 27.
