New York University's women's swimming & diving team suffered a 182-106 loss to The College of New Jersey on Saturday, November 17, in Ewing, NJ.

Despite the loss, the Violets gave many admirable performances, both on the diving board and in the lanes.

Emily Doerner, who has already had a number of stellar races this year, won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.26), the 100-yard freestyle (54.43) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.19). She was also part of NYU's winning 200-yard medley relay (1:51.50), along with teammates Savanna Keator, Sam Hill and Krista Traub.

"Emily has been working hard all year and it's great to see it pay off," said Head Coach Trevor Miele.

Highlights

- Rookie diver Nealey Wallis took third place on the three-meter dive (258.70) and second place on the one-meter dive. Her one-meter score of 280.20 was an NCAA qualifying mark.

"I'm very excited about Nealy's performance today," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "Our team is in great shape heading into the Thanksgiving break."

- Caitie Hawthorne won the 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 5:19.19. She also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle race (2:00.36).

- Gabby Borutecene produced a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle race (10:51.19).

"We had some solid swims today, but we couldn't overcome missing some of our top people due to sickness and injury," Miele said. "I'm sure it would have been a much closer finish."

The Violets return to the pool for the ECAC Championships on Friday-Sunday, November 30-December 2, at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Hempstead, NY.
