Attempting to win its first-ever University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, the New York University women's swimming and diving team just fell short to host Emory.
The Violets accumulated 1846 points, just 21 behind the Eagles. The championships wrapped up on Saturday, February 15, in Atlanta, GA, after four days of competition.
The last time the Violets finished the UAA Championships in second place was 2020, and the team has placed third the past three years.
The NYU women's coaching staff was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year honors along with Emory.
Kaley McIntyre was named UAA Swimmer of the Year after seven first-place finishes at the competition. She won the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday, setting a Division III record in both the preliminary and final round, 48.71 and 48.58, respectively.
Aanya Wala placed third in the 1650-yard freestyle, and Daria Chtokolov was only three seconds behind in fifth place.
Anna Li placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Calista Lynch came in fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke.
The Violets dominated the 200-yard butterfly, with Nicole Ranile placing first, Caitlin Marshall coming in second, and Reina Gomez taking fourth.
NYU's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ranile, Elle Motekaitis, Isabel Oldham, and McIntyre also posted a victory and set a program record in the event with a time of 3:20.04.
"We had an incredible meet with outstanding swims across the board," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "We're in a great spot heading into NCAAs, and I'm excited to get back to training so they can go out and crush it."
Issara Schmidt placed third in the 1-meter dive.
"Issara was amazing after being back for just over a month," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "Proud of the divers this week."
The Violets return to home water for the NYU Invitational on February 21 and 22, and will end the season competing in the NCAA Championships March 19-22.
