Women's Swimming & Diving Places Second at NCAA Championships

Violets' Finish is the Best in Program History

The New York University women's swimming and diving team ascended to new heights for the program on Saturday evening after securing second place at the NCAA Division III National Championships, held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in North Carolina.

The team runner-up finish is the highest in program history.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology won the team championship with 497 points, NYU just behind with 470 points and Kenyon College in third place with 438 points.

I'm incredibly proud of this team—they worked so hard all year long and swam unbelievably fast," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "It was amazing coaching this group, and while we'll miss our graduating seniors, I'm excited to climb the rankings again next year. We have some unfinished business left!"

Kaley McIntyre paced the field again in the 100 freestyle, breaking her own NCAA DIII record for a National Championship. Her time of 48.53 bests her effort at the 2024 event and earns her All-American honors.

Nicole Ranile improved on her preliminary time in the 100 freestyle and placed 12th with a 50.40 finish.

The pair were in the pool for the final swim of the night, teaming with Elle Motekaitis and Isabel Oldham in the 400 freestyle relay. McIntyre swam an inspired anchor leg to try and seal a final win of the meet, but walked away with a new NYU record. The relay took second place and All-American status with a 3:19.36 finish.

The mile swimmers picked up key points for the Violets to start the night. Caitlin Marshall led the pack for the Violets in fourth place, earning All-America status with a 16:47.12 time.

Aanya Wala's 16:56.62 swim was good for ninth place and All-America Honorable Mention.

Calista Lynch represented NYU in the 200 backstroke finals, taking 10h place overall with a 1:59.91 time. She received All-America Honorable Mention recognition.

In the three-meter diving competition, both Issara Schmidt and Maya Williams earned All-America Honorable Mention. Schmidt placed 10th overall with Williams placing 12th.

McIntyre was named NCAA Swimmer of the Year at the conclusion of the meet.
