Quartet of Players Participates in Community Service Project

Four Violets Host Basketball Clinic

Several members of the New York University women's basketball team continued the Violets' commitment to community service on Saturday, December 10, by hosting a basketball clinic uptown.

Team members Whitney Hooper, Melissa Peng, Julia O'Connor, and Bianca Storts led the basketball clinic at Riverside Church in Morningside Heights along with assistant coach Chiene Joy Jones. The Violets conducted station work to teach a group of fifth, sixth and seventh graders about the game of basketball and then split the group into four teams, each coached by one player, for a tournament. O'Connor's team went on to win the tournament.

The clinic was one of many community service projects the team has planned for the season.

“This was another huge step the NYU women's basketball program has taken to being more involved in giving back to underserved communities in New York City,” said Jones. “I'm very proud of our players' continued interest in community service projects."
