The New York University men's soccer team dropped its final contest of the 2011 season, falling 2-0 at Brandeis University on Saturday, November 5, in Waltham, MA.

Sam Ocel scored both of the Judges' (12-5-1, 3-3-1) goals in the first 10 minutes. Ocel found the back of the net just 4:51 in and then added another tally three minutes later.

With the loss, the Violets (7-9-1, 2-5) finished in a tie for seventh in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a total of six points in the standings.

“We fell short,” said NYU head coach Joe Behan. “The clock ticked away and the season ticked away. Now it's back to the drawing board and getting ready for the spring.”

The Violets played several well-placed balls into the box in the first half but couldn't convert. They then controlled much of the possession in the second half but were unable to get on the scoreboard.

“We had a lot of the ball in the second half, but we didn't create a clear-cut chance to get back into the game,” commented Behan. “We had a couple of chances in the first half, but we just didn't get any on target.”

For the game, Brandeis held a 13-7 advantage in shots, though NYU had four corner kicks to the Judges' three.

Forrest Sexton finished with five saves between the pipes for the Violets, while Blake Minchoff made two stops for Brandeis.

NYU's two seniors, Adam Fein and Matt Newman, played their final collegiate games. Fein ended his career tied for third in school history in career assists, with 14.
