Day One Results

The New York University men's golf team is in position to win its first tournament of the spring season after a great opening round at the Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Spring Invitational in Cranston, RI, on Saturday.

As a team, the Violets shot a 303 on the par-71, 6,493-yard Cranston Country Club course. NYU leads a field of 15 teams and has a five-stroke lead over Babson College.

Junior David Su was on fire for the Violets, posting the lowest score of the first round with a one-over 72 while Worcester State junior Bob Bruso is in second place with a 73.

“David was great today. He was mechanical going around the course and putting well,” said NYU head coach Todd Kolean. “It was a little wet and cold out there today, but at this point we feel pretty good going into tomorrow.”

All the other Violets who were scoring for NYU also posted rounds in the 70's. Senior Mike Leibfried and freshman #Gabe Durkin, who shot his lowest round of the spring, both shot 76 to put them is a tie for sixth overall. Sophomore Matt Riccio rounded out the scoring with a 79, which was good enough for a tie of 14th place.

The Violets will return to action Sunday as they tee off at 12:30 p.m. Final results will be available on goNYUathletics.com.
