The New York University men's volleyball team failed again to pick up its first EIVA Hay division win, falling in four sets to Division I Sacred Heart University on Sunday, March 28, in Fairfield, CT.
Despite winning the first set in convincing fashion, the Violets (4-15, 0-6 EIVA Hay) dropped the next three to the Pioneers (15-9, 4-2 EIVA Hay) to fall 3-1 (25-30, 31-29, 30-10, 30-24).
Leading the Violets on offense was sophomore Pat Dodd, who recorded a career-best 17 kills while hitting .333. Dodd also continued his string of strong serving performances, notching a match-high three aces.
Also putting up strong numbers was junior captain Fran Hodgson, who added 12 kills and hit .500. He also put back a match-high nine blocks, including a solo.
On defense, sophomore captain Jay Hayes continued to lead the way, putting up a team-high nine digs.
For the Pioneers, Mike Komlanc led all players with 18 kills while Scott Grandpre put up nine digs in two sets.
The Violets return to the court on Tuesday night when they host Division I Princeton University. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
