Men's Volleyball Lets One Slip Away in Cambridge

Violets Fall 3-1 to Harvard

The New York University men's volleyball team fell in four sets to Division I and EIVA Hay Division rival Harvard University on Saturday, March 27, in Cambridge, MA.

After tying the match at 1-1, The Violets (4-14, 0-5 EIVA Hay) held a 24-19 lead late in the third set.  However, an 8-2 run by the Crimson (3-12, 3-1 EIVA Hay) gave them the lead and they never looked back, winning the final two sets to take the match 3-1 (30-28, 28-30, 31-29, 30-22).

Leading the way on offense for NYU was senior captain Mike Ferragonio, who tied a season-best total with 17 kills.  At the net, he put back a season-high five blocks while also adding four digs.

Also putting up strong numbers on offense was sophomore Pat Dodd, who put down 13 kills. He also put up big serving numbers, notching a season-best five aces.

In the middle, junior captain Fran Hodgson tallied 11 kills while hitting .381. Sophomore Luke Hamlet added eight kills and hit .538 with a team-high seven blocks, including a solo.

On defense, sophomore captain Jay Hayes put up nine digs.

For the Crimson, Erik Kuld led all players with 23 kills, while Derek Jansma notched a match-high 12 digs.

The Violets return to the court on Tuesday night when they host Division I Princeton University.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
