Emory University led from start-to-finish and defeated New York University 70-56 in a University Athletic Conference (UAA) women's basketball game on Friday night in Atlanta.
The Eagles (10-13, 3-9 UAA), who broke a six-game losing streak, scored the first four points of the game and never trailed in evening the season series with the Violets (13-10, 5-7).
NYU beat Emory 59-55 at the Coles Sports Center on Jan. 22.
The game got off to a slow start, as neither team scored until the Eagles' Whitney Martin hit a lay-up after 2:16 had been played.
The Violets scored their first points on a lay-up by Makenzie Hirz with 15:58 left in the opening half.
Emory led the entire first half, increasing its lead to a high of 11 points on two occasions, the final one coming on Lauren Ferguson's three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer, giving the Eagles a 31-20 lead at the break.
After Chrissy Kilmurray scored the second half's first basket to cut the NYU deficit to nine, Emory reeled off the next 10 points to grab a game-high 19-point lead, 41-22.
NYU never got closer than 13 the rest of the way, with Emily Foshag's lay-up bringing the Violets to within 55-42 with 5:02 remaining.
Bianca Storts tied a season high with 10 points for the Violets, while Foshag and Kilmurray each had eight.
Martin led all scorers with 15. Keenan Whitesides and Becca Feldman each had 10 for Emory.
NYU has now lost three straight games and will face the University of Rochester in Rochester on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
