Men's Swimming & Diving Team Finish Dual-Meet Season on Saturday

Violets Face Vassar College on the Road

Junior captain Andy King will be hungry for a win against Vassar.

On Saturday, Jan. 30, the New York University men's swimming and diving team competes in its last dual meet of the 2009-10 season. The Violets (6-4) look to garner a win against host Vassar College (2-4) and provide a momentum boost as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships are fast approaching.

In last weekend's action, NYU fell to annual rival The College of New Jersey. The Violets were over-matched by the depth of the TCNJ squad en route to a 179-116 loss.

Senior Eric Pcholinski was a bright spot for NYU, posting victories in the 50 freestyle (21.74) as well as the 100 freestyle (47.31). Head coach Bob Sorensen will look for his top sprinter to again lead the Violet charge against Vassar. Junior captain Andy King, and sophomores Bryson Naylor and James Bedell will also be looking to respond after being denied victories against TCNJ.

"We were certainly looking ahead to the UAA Championships," said Sorensen after the loss. "That took away focus and resulted in a loss, but performing well at UAA's are the ultimate goal for this team."

The UAA Championship will be hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, GA, from Feb. 17-20.

On the diving boards, Max Norris, a seven-time UAA Athlete of the Week this season, will look to add an encore performance after posting first-place finishes in both diving events versus TCNJ.

"Max has stepped up to the level of top-notch national competition," said NYU diving coach Scott Donie.

This weekend's meet against Vassar will begin at 1:00 pm. Results will be available on goNYUathletics.com.
