The New York University men's swimming & diving team grinded out a victory on Saturday, Nov. 21, eventually overcoming host Swarthmore College 112-93.
The Violets, now 6-2 in dual meets this season, had contributions from the entire roster, something they are very used to this season.
"It's great to see someone stepping up every week," said NYU head coach Bob Sorensen. "Today, that was the case for several of the swimmers."
Sophomore Bryson Naylor led the way with two individual first-place finishes. He raced to victories in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.70) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:56.28). In the last event of the evening, Naylor swam a leg for NYU's "A" 400 freestyle relay, helping the squad garner a winning time of 3:16.40.
Several other Violets won events, inclduing junior captain Andy King, senior Eric Pcholinski and freshman Greg Jacobs. King won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.26, Pcholinski claimed victory in the 50 freestyle (22.04), and Jacobs had a top-place time in the 200 backstroke (2:05.53).
"The second line of swimmers really made this difference for us," added Sorensen. "It's not always the guys who win every event. It's those second- and third-place finishers thatcan help to win these meets, as well."
Sorensen identified swimmers Ross Gormley and Lawrence Zhou as the difference-makers. Gormley took second place in the 1,000 free, while Zhou also raced to second place in the 200 individual medley behind King.
There were no diving events held.
NYU returns to the pool on Friday, Dec. 4, when the Violets compete at the MIT Invitational in Cambridge, MA.
