The New York University men's golf team will close out its fall tournament slate by hosting the NYU/Manhattanville College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 18, at Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, NY.
NYU has had an impressive fall season to this point. The Violets have finished in the top half of each tournament they have participated in this season. A second-place team finish at the ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Championship has been the highlight to go along with three fourth place showings.
Individually, senior Mike Leibfried leads the team in scoring with a 74.5 average through four tournaments. Leibfried's two rounds of even par helped him capture the ECAC individual scoring title on Oct. 4.
Junior David Su has fired for the lowest round of the season with a 70 at the ECACs and has compiled a 75.8 scoring average to go along with four top-20 finishes. Junior Ben Kleiner and sophomore Matt Riccio also have two and four top-20 finishes, respectively.
Teams competing in the invite include Skidmore College, SUNY-Delhi, Hollins College, Roberts Wesleyan College, Stevens College, Hamilton College, Skidmore College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. All teams will combat Hampshire Country Club's par-71, 6,326-yard course.
Last season at the NYU/Manhattanville Invite, the Violets posted their second lowest single-round score of the season on the final day with a 298, but fell just one stroke behind SUNY-Delhi of winning the tournament. Leading the way for NYU last year were Leibfried and SU, who both shot two-day totals of 152 to tie for fifth place overall.
Play will begin at noon on Saturday, and teams will tee-off Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Coverage and results of this weekend's tournament will be available on goNYUathletics.com.
The annual New York University golf teams' Family Day event will take place following the conclusion of the invite on Sunday.
