Members of the New York University men's and women's track and field teams headed to Widener University on Monday, May 11 for the Widener Final Qualifier.
The Violets looked to improve their times in hopes of qualifying for the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, held May 21-23 on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The top 22 times in each event qualify for the Championships, with alternates from the 23rd-best time down the rankings filling out the field in place of scratches.
Julian Aske,
the UAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week, improved on his 800m time from Saturday at Williams' F.I.R.E. Meet, putting down the 12th-best time in the Division III outdoor season. Aske clocked in at 1:50.07 and finished in 11th overall.
Rina Kurihara was the Violets' top finisher in the women's 800m final, taking 16th in 2:12.62. The finish is the 47th-best across DIII this season.
In the women's 1500m race,
Katharine Frank recorded the team's second potentially-qualifying time of the night. Frank finished in 4:28.84, the 21st-best time of the DIII outdoor season. She placed ninth at the meet.
Huckleberry Oakes (3:51.15) was the top finish for NYU on the men's side, finishing in 19th place.
Closing out the night,
Alex Hrycyszyn took tenth place in the men's 5000m. His 14:31.67 time is the 61st-best time of the season across DIII.
Greg Borden took 14th place in 14:40.23.
The two Violets throwers in action on Monday both placed in the top ten.
Emma Grunin (37.18m) took second place overall in the women's javelin throw, while
Daniel Lee (41.55m) placed ninth in the men's discus throw.
Barring any additional final events, the qualifying Violets will head to Wisconsin for the National Championships, May 21-23.
