The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin today on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Eight members of the New York University men's and women's track and field have qualified, with many beginning competition today.
Katharine Frank will be the first Violet in action at 4:35pm (central) on Thursday, competing in the 1500m prelim. She's making her first National Championship meet appearance after posting the 17th-best time nationally (4:28.84).
A trio of NYU women will be competing in the 10,000m on Thursday, scheduled for 7:30pm (central).
Katherine Cochran (34:15.67) and
Josephine Dziedzic (34:28.40) logged the fifth and sixth best times in the Division III outdoor season to secure their place at the National Championship meet.
Lucy Gott (35:34.96) joins them in the field with the 17th-best seed time.
Cochran and Gott will be appearing in their second Outdoor National Championships, with Dziedzic qualifying for the first time.
On the men's side,
Liam Hagerty will be the Violets' lone representative in the Men's 10,000m on Thursday, qualifying for his first Outdoor National Championships. He posted the 14th-best time (29:45.55) and will follow the women at approximately 8:15pm (central).
Julian Aske will be making his second career Outdoor Nationals appearance and will be competing in the Men's 800m Prelim at 3:35pm (central) on Friday. Aske's best season mark of 1:50.07 is the 13th-fastest in the field.
Cochran and Dziedzic will pull double duty with the Women's 5,000m Run on Saturday. Cochran (16:34.94) finished the season with the 13th-best time in Division III, while Dziedzic (16:37.02) recorded the 19th-best time.
NYU's lone field athlete at the National Championships will be rookie Alexa McMillian. She posted her seed mark on the final day, jumping 12.00m in the triple jump at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships on May 14. The NYU program-record mark was good for the 14th best seed mark. She will also compete on Saturday.
Theodore Udelson-Nee qualified for his first Outdoor National Championships with the third-best 5000m time (13:56.49) in Division III and will also compete on Saturday.
