NYU leads the Learfield Directors' Cup standings after the winter sports season

NYU Athletics First in Directors' Cup Standings

Violets Total 812.25 Points Through Winter Season

New York University Athletics currently holds the number one spot in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division III standings through the Winter season, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics on Thursday, April 2.

With one National Championship and four top-four finishes, the NYU winter sports teams combined for the best results for one season in department history.

The Violets totaled 582.25 points in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings during the winter season, vaulting NYU to the top of the national standings with 812.25 points. NYU is just ahead of Williams College (811.00) and Washington University in St. Louis (787.50).

"Our department continues to stack historic accomplishments, and I could not be prouder of our athletes, coaches and staff," said Director of Athletics Jake Olkkola. "The success we are achieving across NYU Athletics is the direct result of the investments we have undertaken to support our teams with the best in performance and development, and I look forward to continuing our growth in the spring season."

NYU was buoyed by the women's swimming and diving team's first National Championship and the men's team runner-up finish. The 1-2 finish is the best combined season in program history and earned 190 total points in the Directors' Cup standings.

The women's basketball team earned 83 points for the cause with their third consecutive Final Four appearance. The wrestling team's program-best fourth-place finish earned 80 points.

Track and field combined for 105.25 points after the women's team took 15th, another program best, and the men finished in 25th place at the Indoor National Championships.

Top-20 finishes for men's and women's fencing scored 74 points for the Violets. The men's basketball team rounded out the scoring with 50 points after their first-round win in the NCAA Tournament.

The Violets are set to close out the academic year with baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's outdoor track & field. The final standings through the Spring season will be published on Tuesday, June 9.
