Women's Basketball to Host NCAA First/Second Rounds

Violets Ready to Defend Their Title

The New York University women's basketball team, coming off back-to-back National Championships, are returning to the NCAA Divison III Tournament for the fifth year in a row.

The top-seeded and undefeated Violets (25-0) are set to host the first and second round on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.

"It's a really proud moment for our program to be the number one overall seed," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "We're looking forward to hosting the first round on Friday."

SUNY Cortland (23-4) and Messiah University (23-4) will take the court first with a 5:15 pm start on Friday. Following that game, NYU will take on the University of Maine-Farmington ( 21-7) at 7:45 pm.

The winners of each contest will meet on Saturday, March 7, in the second round with tip-off set for 7:45 pm.

Maine-Farmington enters the tournament for the first time since 2007 after winning the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship. This will mark the first meeting between the two teams.

On Saturday, February 28, the Violets extended their win streak to 87 games, the longest in Division III basketball history (men or women), and the fourth-longest in any division. NYU is one short of the men's Division I  all-time record of 88, set by the UCLA Bruins from 1971-74. The University of Connecticut women's team holds the two longest streaks in NCAA basketball history with 90 from 2008-10 and 111 from 2014-17.

NYU senior Caroline Peper has tied the program record for most three-pointers in a single season with 94. She is the only member of the current roster who has ever suffered a collegiate defeat.

"We're super excited for what's ahead of us. But, like always, we're only focused on the next game," Peper said.
