Four Violets Earn Weekly Honors

Rubin (MBB), Ebeling (MVB), Cross (MSWIM), and Wala (WSWIM) Honored

Four New York University student-athletes have earned weekly honors following their outstanding performances over the past week.

Darren Rubin of men's basketball, Teddy Cross of men's swimming and diving, and Aanya Wala of women's swimming and diving were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, while BoJameson Ebeling of men's volleyball earned United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Rookie of the Week honors.

Rubin had an outstanding weekend as the Violets posted two UAA road wins against ranked opponents. Over the two games, he shot 46.8% (15-32) from the field, 55.5% (5-9) from three-point range and 90.9% (10-11) from the foul line, averaging 22.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.0 steals.

In the Violets' 77-76 victory over #18-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, NYU's graduate student finished the game with a season-high of 28 points, while adding six assists, four rebounds and two steals. With 4.1 seconds left and NYU trailing by two, Rubin dribbled the length of the court and drilled a shot from beyond the arc as time expired.

Then, in NYU's 89-68 win at #2 University of Chicago on Sunday, Rubin totaled 17 points, four rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

In just his third career collegiate match, Ebeling tallied a team-high 22 kills on an impressive .410 hitting, leading the Violets to a 3-1 road win over Arcadia University on Friday night. He also added seven digs and two block assists. With the victory, #8-ranked NYU improved to 3-1 on the young season.

Matched up against #5-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology and #8 Williams College on Friday afternoon, Teddy Cross and the #3 Violets swept the tri-meet in which the graduate student accounted for three first-place finishes.

Cross won both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races with times of 49.28 and 1:48.01, respectively. His win in the 100 back was ahead of second place by just 0.30 seconds. He was also a part of the quartet that won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.89.

The #3 women also swept their side of the tri-meet, most notably taking down defending #5 defending National Champion MIT. Wala helped deliver crucial points in the 500-yard freestyle, as she took first place with a time of 5:00.97. In the 1650-yard freestyle, she earned second place with a time of 17:06.94.
