Two New York University student-athletes have been named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week following their outstanding performances.
Caroline Peper of
#1-ranked women's basketball and
Ty Finn of
#20-ranked wrestling were both honored.
Peper's stellar performance led the Violets to a 79-49 victory over Brandeis University in their UAA opener on Saturday in Waltham, MA. The senior scored 37 points and tied her own team record with 11 made three-pointers, shooting .500 (11-of-22) from long distance (13-of-28 overall). She added two rebounds, two assists, a block, and a game-high three steals as NYU recorded its 74th-straight victory, the fourth-longest in the history of NCAA women's basketball at all levels.
Finn won all four of his bouts as NYU competed at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals in Cedar Falls, IA, on Friday and Saturday. He began with an 8-5 decision over #6-ranked Bryce McDonough of Luther College and a 20-3 technical fall victory over Nolan Rowley of Albion College on Friday.
Then, on Saturday, the #7-ranked Finn pinned Elias Chapin of Cornell College in 2:17 and concluded with an 8-4 win over #8 Thomas West of Baldwin Wallace University. Finn's performance helped lead #20 NYU to wins in three of their four duals and a 17th-place finish overall, including a 21-20 victory over #15 Baldwin Wallace. The Violets are now 13-1 in dual meets this season, while Finn's overall record has improved to a perfect 15-0.
