The
#17-ranked New York University women's soccer team dominated Mount Saint Mary College 6-0 en route to a season-opening win on Friday, August 29, in Newburgh, NY.
Five different Violets found the back of the net on the night, including a brace from
Alexa Buxbaum.
It took less than one minute into the game for NYU to break the ice, as Buxbaum scored her first goal at the 50-second mark. Just 12 minutes later, she posted her second goal with assists coming from both
Rena Kalargiros and
Sydney Freese.
Kalargiros added a third goal just inside the 20-minute mark to close out the scoring for the first half.
Just over a minute into the second half, newcomer
Sonia Neighbors scored off of another assist by Freese. The latter then registered a goal as well with over 30 minutes remaining.
Yukino Wakatsuki added a final tally with a goal in the 85th minute.
After
Mia Capo started the first half,
Demetra Sideridis and
Maddy Tohanczyn split time in net in the second half and recorded one save each.
The Violets will return to action with their home opener against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Sunday, August 31, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ. Kickoff is set for 12:05pm.
