NYU Athletics Finishes #8 in Final 2024-25 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Second Straight Top-Ten Finish for the Violets

NYU Athletics has finished in the top ten of the final Learfield Directors' Cup standings for the second consecutive year.

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today award the Learfield Directors' Cup each season based on institutions' finishes in the NCAA Championships.

NYU finished eighth in the 2024-25 Directors' Cup standings after sitting in second place at the end of the winter season, scoring 880.50 total points this academic year. 

"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes, coaches and staff for their collective effort this year," said NYU Director of Athletics and Recreation Jake Olkkola. "NYU finishing in the top ten of the Directors' Cup standings for the second year is a testament to our continued efforts to hold ourselves as one of top athletic departments in the nation."

Fellow University Athletic Association (UAA) member Emory University won the Directors' Cup with 1198.75 points, followed by Johns Hopkins University with 1147.00 points and Tufts University with 1069.00 points. 

Four UAA institutions populated the top ten in the final standings: Emory (1st place), WashU (4th place), NYU (8th place), and UChicago (9th place). 

The Violets entered the spring season in second place in the Division III rankings with 727.00 points. 

The men's volleyball team scored the most points for NYU in the spring season, adding 65 points to the department total after finishing the season one game away from the national semifinal. 

Women's golf earned 55 points for NYU after a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship.

NYU's men's track and field team earned 28.5 points following Ryan Tobin's fourth-place finish in the 5000m final at the DIII Outdoor Championships. The team finished 42nd overall out of 137 participating teams. 

Janie Cooper earned the women's track and field team five points in the Directors' Cup standings with her seventh-place finish in the 5000m final which landed the Violets in 62nd place of 126 teams. 

The Violets have finished in the top 25 of the Directors' Cup standings for the last three academic years.
